Calcium is an essential nutrient for cannabis plants, providing structural support and aiding in stress resistance, particularly heat. A calcium deficiency in cannabis can be identified by the presence of brown or bronze splotches or spots on the leaves. While yellowing is commonly associated with calcium deficiency, it may not always occur. Under LED lights, the splotches may even appear purple. Calcium deficiencies are often caused by low pH at the roots or by using soft or filtered water.

Cause of Issue
◉ Low pH at the roots ◉ Growing in soft/filtered water
Symptoms
◉ Brown or bronze splotches or spots on leaves ◉ Yellowing of leaves (though not always) ◉ Occasional appearance of purple splotches under LEDs ◉ Symptoms are more pronounced on top leaves and those closer to the light ◉ More common during the flowering stage
Corrective Actions
◉ Adjust pH levels at the roots (6.2-7.0 in soil, 6.2-6.5 in coco/hydro) ◉ Flush the system with pH-adjusted water and cannabis-friendly nutrients containing calcium ◉ Use a calcium and magnesium supplement, such as Cal-Mag ◉ Consider using Dolomite Lime, a slow-release calcium and magnesium source for soil growers ◉ Ensure proper soil pH (around 6.5) when using Dolomite Lime
