Crickets, including tree crickets and mole crickets, can be pests for cannabis plants, causing small holes in leaves and disturbing the roots. While crickets are not as common of a problem as grasshoppers, it is important to address their presence before they multiply in numbers. Tree crickets are known to chew on cannabis leaves, while mole crickets tunnel under the plants.

Cause of Issue
◉ Crickets, attracted to light and organic matter, may be drawn to cannabis plants. Leaf litter, mulch, and garbage can also attract crickets. Regularly checking for signs of crickets, especially at night, can help prevent infestations.
Symptoms
◉ Small holes in cannabis leaves caused by crickets feeding. ◉ Mole crickets tunneling under the plant roots, potentially disturbing them.
Corrective Actions
◉ Regular Monitoring: Check your plants regularly, especially at night when crickets are active. Remove unnecessary leaf litter and clean the surrounding area to discourage cricket infestations. Avoid leaving lights on at night, as they can attract crickets. ◉ Cricket Bait & Traps: Use cricket bait or traps to lure and capture crickets. These traps can be combined with light sources, as crickets are attracted to light. While traps won't eliminate an infestation, they can help reduce cricket numbers. ◉ Spinosad Products: Apply Spinosad products, which are organic and safe for pets, children, and plants. Spray the affected areas liberally to kill crickets on contact. Spinosad affects the insect's nervous system and is toxic to grasshoppers but less harmful to beneficial insects and spiders. Ensure thorough coverage and follow the product instructions. ◉ Insecticidal Soaps: Use fatty acid salts or insecticidal soaps to weaken the outer shell of crickets. These soaps are safe for plants and leave minimal residue. Proper coverage is crucial, as soaps do not stay on plants for long. Avoid getting any on the buds. ◉ Neem Oil: Neem oil is an all-natural remedy effective against various bugs, including crickets. Spray the leaves evenly using a mister. Take caution as Neem oil may leave an unpleasant taste or smell on buds and has some evidence of potential harm to humans. Avoid contact with buds and follow the instructions. ◉ Essentria IC3: Essentria IC3 is an organic insecticide made from horticultural oils. Treat the plants regularly, as it remains effective for about 8 hours. Thoroughly spray the leaves using a mister or pressure sprayer. Floating Row Covers: For smaller plants, use floating row covers to physically prevent crickets from reaching the plants while allowing light and water to pass through. These covers are lightweight and airy, protecting plants from wind and harsh conditions. ◉ Pyrethrin: Pyrethrin-based insecticides are low in toxicity for humans and degrade quickly. Spray the leaves evenly using a mister or pressure sprayer. Use caution, as pyrethrin products are toxic to bees. Apply in the evening to minimize harm to bees. ◉ Remember to choose the appropriate method based on your specific situation and follow the instructions provided by the product manufacturer.
