The initial symptoms of a molybdenum deficiency in plants, such as cannabis, may resemble those of a nitrogen deficiency, including yellowing of older, lower leaves. However, a distinct characteristic of molybdenum deficiency is the appearance of a unique orange, red, or pink color around the edges of the leaves, which may gradually move toward the center or even manifest in the middle of the leaves.

Cause of Issue
◉ Molybdenum deficiency is rare in cannabis plants ◉ Molybdenum gets locked out at lower pH ranges ◉ Incorrect pH levels at the roots hinder molybdenum absorption
Symptoms
◉ Yellowing of older, lower leaves, similar to a nitrogen deficiency ◉ Mottled or spotted appearance of leaves ◉ Development of orange, red, or pink color around the edges or middle of leaves
Corrective Actions
◉ Adjust pH: Check and maintain the pH levels of the root zone within the recommended ranges (6.0-7.0 in soil, 5.5-6.5 in hydroponics) to enhance molybdenum absorption. ◉ Flush the system: If you suspect a molybdenum deficiency, flush your growing system with clean, pH-balanced water containing cannabis-friendly nutrients that include molybdenum. This process helps remove nutrient salts that might hinder molybdenum uptake and restore pH to the appropriate levels. ◉ Monitor growth: Once the molybdenum deficiency is resolved, the symptoms (pink coloring and yellowing leaves) should cease appearing on new growth within approximately a week. Damaged leaves are unlikely to recover, so focus on observing other parts of the plant for signs of recovery. ◉ Remember, maintaining a healthy pH and providing appropriate nutrients are essential for preventing and addressing molybdenum deficiencies in cannabis plants.
