Cannabis root rot is a condition characterized by slimy, brown, twisted, or unhealthy roots. It occurs due to the presence of unwanted pathogens in the hydroponic tank. The roots affected by root rot are unable to provide adequate oxygen to the plant, resulting in curled, drooping, and unhealthy leaves. The symptoms of root rot often resemble those of over or under-watering in soil-grown plants.

Cause of Issue
◉ Root rot can be caused by various organisms, including bacteria, fungi, algae, and parasitic oomycotes. ◉ Common triggers for root rot include light leaks, high temperatures, and a lack of oxygen in the water.
Symptoms
◉ Brown, slimy, and smelly roots indicate root rot. ◉ Roots may become mushy and twisted. ◉ Healthy cannabis roots are typically white or cream-colored. ◉ Leaf symptoms associated with root rot can vary widely, including burnt edges, yellowing, bronze or brown spots, nutrient deficiencies, clawing, curling, and other unusual patterns.
Corrective Actions
◉ Add beneficial root bacteria using products like Hydroguard, VooDoo Juice, Great White, or Rooters. ◉ Increase oxygen levels by using air pumps and large air stones. ◉ Eliminate light leaks to prevent the growth of harmful organisms. ◉ Maintain a cool environment with temperatures below 80°F (27°C) to increase dissolved oxygen levels. ◉ Minimize root disturbance, especially in young plants, to allow the development of a protective biofilm. ◉ Maintain cleanliness and sterility by removing dead roots, leaves, and plant debris from the reservoir.
